Meet Zahara

My Story

Zahara's father died of AIDS before she was old enough to remember him. Although her mother is still alive, she is HIV+ and often very sickly. When she feels healthy enough to work, Zahara's mother works a prostitute in the slums of Busia.

Before Zahara was brought to New Hope, her mother would leave her alone in a single-room rented house during the night. Zahara usually ate only once a day and could not attend school regularly due to lack of funds. When not in school, Zahara spent most of her time with neighbors who offered some meals to her.  Zahara was found walking helplessly in the slum of Arubaine and rescued by a community member who brought her to New Hope.

Zahara is now under New  Hope's full care and she dreams of finishing school and becoming a nurse. With your help we can provide Zahara with nutritional, medical, and educational needs and greatly improve her quality of life.  To sponsor Zahara, please click the “donate now” button below.
