My Story

Though both of Sylvia’s parents are alive, Sylvia’s family is extremely poor and survive only on the food provided by the father’s small garden.  Furthermore, Sylvia’s mother suffers from a severe kidney problem and is often bedridden.

Before coming to New Hope, Sylvia and her 4 siblings typically ate only once per day and could only go to school irregularly due to a lack of funds.  When not at school Sylvia would fetch water and firewood for the family as well as neighbors in addition to cooking.

Sylvia moved to New Hope in May 2008, and hopes to finish her education and become a nurse so that she can help sick people like her mother.
