Meet Janet
Meet Janet
My Story
Janet lost her father to HIV/AIDS in 2008. Her mother, who is also HIV positive is often to weak to work and provide for Janet’s basic needs.
After her father died, Janet and her mother left their home in Iganga to seek assitance from family members in Busia district. However, Janet’s family utterly refused to help her and her mother, most likely due to stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS. Janet and her mother were taken in by a local pastor in Busia Town council. They slept on a small papyrus mat inside the church, and Janet’s mother washed clothes during the day to pay for food.
New Hope is now caring for Janet and her mother through the provision of food, shelter, medical care and school fees. Janet is living with her mother in a small room rented by New Hope, and we are currently working to empower Janet’s mother with skills training and capital so that she can open up a small business and generate income to provide for herself and Janet. New Hope is also providing school fees, food and medical care for Janet.
Despite her difficult circumstances, Janet dreams of finishing school and becoming a nurse. With your help we can continue to help Janet and greatly improve her quality of life. To sponsor Janet, please click the “donate now” button below.
