My Story

Apothia’s father succumbed to AIDS in September 2007.  Her mother is HIV positive and lives in poverty.

Even before Apothia’s father passed away, Apothia’s family lived in extreme poverty and lacked access to adequate food and healthcare.  Due to a lack of funds, Apothia was not able to continue her education beyond primary school.  Instead of going to school, Apothia was forced to work as a housemaid in a town 50 kilometers from her home.

When Apothia was 13, her parents encouraged her to get married, but Apothia refused.  With her parents unable to support her education, Apothia joined an orphanage in Busia that promised food, shelter and education.  Unfortunately, the lady running the orphanage began abusing Apothia and the other children, and the orphanage quickly disintegrated.  With no where to go, Apothia sought help from a local pastor, who brought her to New Hope.

Apothia is now under the full care of New Hope, an dreams of  becoming a doctor. With your help, we can continue to provide Apothia with all her nutritional, medical and educational needs and greatly improve her quality of life.  To sponsor Apothia, please click the “donate now” button below.
